Gynaecological disorders in adolescence are relatively uncommon, but may present diagnostic and management challenges for the obstetrician and gynaecologist. This review describes the normal patterns of sex steroid and gynaecological development during puberty and discusses the common and uncommon menstrual disorders that may arise in early reproductive life, giving guidance on their investigation and management. Some of the rarer but important conditions that the gynaecologist should be aware of are briefly mentioned.
