This article describes the background to the decision to introduce Extended Matching Questions into the Part 2 MRCOG written examination. It outlines the customary structure of Extended Matching Questions, using two examples, and describes how they are written. The aims of the paper are to explain the educational and evaluative benefits of adding these questions to the range of examination formats, and to provide some tips to candidates on how to prepare for and successfully attempt them.
